We received a postcard inviting us to the opening Yolanda’s retrospective exhibition at the Officine Fotografiche in Rome and hopped on an airplane. We were honored to see John Baer: The Extraordinary Ordinary among the remarkable books that Yo has created over forty years!

There’s a black-and-white photo taken in 1953 of four women sitting on a bench in Manhattan’s Bryant Park. They’re probably work friends on a lunch break…

After three years of sorting, digitizing, and editing John’s negatives we were ready to make a book. We reached out to Yolanda Cuomo and were overjoyed when she agreed to work with us. John Baer / The Extraordinary Ordinary / A Memoir in Photographs 1945 -1954 was composed by Paper Cinema Editons: a collaborative formed by creative director Yolanda Cuomo, with editor Alexa Dilworth and photo reproduction master Jonno Rattman.

New York Stories is a dynamic collaboration between Chevalier Ballet and the John Baer Archive. Taking inspiration from John Baer’s photos, the ballet paints a vibrant picture of post-war New York.
